Crocodyliform remains from the Qigu Formation in the southern Junggar Basin (NW China)
Cranial bones and vertebrae of a crocodyliform archosaur were found in alluvial sediments of the Upper Jurassic Qigu-Formation in the Junggar Basin (Xinjiang Province/China).The majority of the bone fragments belongs to the occipital region. The reconstructed skull width at the posterior end is approximately 8 cm.The similarities of the skull, mandible, and atlas with Sunosuchus allow a preliminary assignment of the new material into the taxon Sunosuchus.Hence, the new find increases the stratigraphic range of this taxon in the southern Junggar Basin.
