Effect of edge processing form and surface scratch on the impact resistance property of chemical strengthened aluminasilicate glasses

Chemical strengthened aluminasilicate glasses with high compressive stress of 500 MPa and the depth of stress layer of about 60μm were produced by low-temperature ion exchange method. The effect of edge processing form and surface scratch on the impact resistance property of chemical strengthened aluminasilicate glasses with varying thickness was investigated. The results demonstrate that for the glass with 2mm thickness, the breaking height of mechanical edge grinding is about 10.8% higher than manual edge grinding. For the glass with 8mm thickness, the breaking height of mechanical edge grinding is about 46.9% higher than manual edge grinding. In addition, the impact resistance 2 mm thick glass is more sensitive to the surface scratch (about 200mm long and 10 μm deep) than 8mm thick glass.
