Calcium accumulation characterization in the aerobic granule cultivated in a continuous-flow bioreactor
Little work has been done on the accumulation characteristics of Ca2+ in the aerobic granules that cultivated in the continuous flow bioreactor. The contribution of Ca2+ on the biogranulation was studied in a continuous flow airlift fluidized (CAFB),by comparing with the biogranulation without Ca2+ directly in this work.Precipitation of calcium in the aerobic granules, cultivated in this complete mixing bioreactor, was figured out by direct spectral and optical analysis. It was found calcium located throughout the center slice of the Ca-rich granules, rather than accumulated in the center area of the granules that cultivated in the sequencing batch reactor.Such difference was considered to be related the operational conditions of these two kinds reactors, whereas selective pressure was not controlled in the CAFB.Furthermore,CaCO3 was detected as the calcium crystalline mineral form which corresponded with other researchers work.It should be notice calcium augmentation in the granule promoted the accumulation of magnesium in the granules.Such phenomenon was first reported to our best knowledge. The magnesium was possibly presented at the form of Ca7Mg2P6O24 according to X-ray Diffraction analysis,or combined with the organic polymer together.
