Fabrication of in situ hybrid (TiCp+TiBw)/Ti6Al4V composites with a novel network microstructure
In situ hybrid TiC particles and TiB whiskers reinforced Ti6Al4V ((TiCp+TiBw)/Ti64) composites with a novel network microstructure were successfully fabricated by two-step low energy milling and reaction hot pressing (RHP).TiCp and TiBw reinforcements are in situ synthesized around the large Ti64 matrix particles, and subsequently formed into hybrid TiCp and TiBw network microstructure. The bending strength of the network structured composites obviously increased by adding TiBw instead of TiCp,due to the superior strengthening effect of TiBw and the decreased contiguity of reinforcement on the network boundary. The network structured composites exhibit a superior anti-oxidation ability due to the novel network microstructure and TiCp wall microstructure. However, the anti-oxidation ability decreased due to the addition of TiBw.
