Preparation and performance studies on high noise reduced composites based on BaSO4 filled Poly(vinyl chloride)

As a widely used general polymer material,PVC shows the great potential value for insulating or damping the sound and vibration due to their unique combination of structure, inherent damping,light-weight and processable ability.A kind of inorganic filler,BaSO4,was introduced in PVC resin for improving the sound transmission loss (STL).The experimental results revealed that the stiffness and surface density were improved effectively by introduction BaSO4 fillers in PVC resin, which resulted in increase of sound insulation performance of composites in both stiffness-controlled and mass-controlled regions. At the same time, the results of sound propagation velocity, characteristic impedance and mechanical properties show that composites filled with BaSO4 have many contributions coming from the sound reflection and the frictional loss, which may increase the sound insulation capacity of the composites.
