Thermal Decomposition Characteristics of Chinese Fir
Thermogravimetry (TG),Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and Coats-Redfern (modified) methods and a combination of TG and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (TG-FTIR) were used to investigate the thermal decomposition process of Chinese Fir,determine the apparent activation energy (Ea) and analyze its pyrolysis products. The TG curve indicated the degradation process of heartwood and sapwood for Chinese Fir were similar, but the degradation temperature of heartwood was lower than that of sapwood. The main decomposition occurred in temperature range of 500K to 660K and over 70% mass was degraded. The Ea of heartwood and sapwood slightly changed at the conversion rate from 10 to 70.TG-FTIR analysis showed that the main pyrolysis products included absorbed water, methane gas, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, acids and aldehydes, nitrogen dioxide, nitric oxide, ammonia gas.The results from this research are very helpful to better design manufacturing process of bio-energy,made from Chinese Fir.
