Effect of Raw Coal Gangue and Light-burned Bauxite Addition on Properties of Lightweight Al2O3-SiO2 Castables

Incorporation of raw or light-burned materials in refractories can help to reduce energy consumption and production cost.In this work, raw coal gangue and light-burned bauxite were partly introduced to the matrix of Al2O3-SiO2 lightweight castables.Effect of these materials addition on mechanical properties and volume stability was investigated. Results indicate that there is no adverse effect on flowability of castables after adding raw coal gangue, and the cold mechanical properties exhibit little changes while HMOR of castables can be significantly enhanced,so as the volume stability after treated at high temperature. The present work shows that it is feasible to add some raw coal gangue materials into the lightweight Al2O3-SiO2 castables. It can be deduced that adding some raw coal gangue into lightweight Al2O3-SiO2 castables is feasible and of great necessity.
