Effect of Sodium Tripolyphosphate Content on Properties of MgO-CaO Dry Vibration Mixes for Tundish

Effect of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) on properties of magnesia-lime dry vibration mixes for tundish has been investigated. The STPP addition was 0%,0.5%,1%,1.5% and 2% respectively.Specimens were prepared by ramming vibration and heated at 220 ℃,1100 ℃ and 1550 ℃ respectively.Cold modulus of rupture, cold compressive strength, bulk density, permanent linear change and apparent porosity of the samples were tested. With STPP addition increasing, cold strengths after heating both at low and at high temperature can be improved.STPP plays an important role in controlling the quantity of low melting phases and sintering at high temperature.Compromisingly, appropriate addition of STPP in this work is suggested as 1%.
