Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of MgO-C Refractories Containing Graphite Oxide Nanosheets (GONs)
MgO-C refractories containing graphite oxide nanosheets (GONs) with Al,Si additives were prepared in this work.Firstly the MgO-GONs composite powders were fabricated by common ball milling of expanded graphite and magnesia powders, and then incorporated into MgO-C refractories. The results showed GONs in different size and thickness were well distributed in magnesia powderdepending on addition amount of expanded graphite; the addition of GONs produced the positive influence on the mechanical properties of MgO-C refiactories.Much higher cold modulus of rupture (CMOR) and increased displacement were achieved for MgO-C specimens with GONs compared to that of the specimen with only flaky graphite fired at 1400℃.Moreover,the thermal shock resistance of all the samples with addition of GONs was better than that of no GONs one, which is supposed that GONs and in-situ formed ceramic phases in matrix can strengthen and toughen MgO-C refractories.
