Public Trust and Crisis Management of the Local Government:A Case Study of the Cheating Incident in Sanya,China
Rapid economic growth often engenders social problems.In China,scandals are eroding government authority and trustworthiness is in doubt.What should local governments do to prevent and cope with public crisis events? How do they coordinate the relationship between civil society and the public interest?How can China maintain public trust in government?This article analyzes confusion and inconsistency in local government responses to crises with a focus on a restaurant overcharging and cheating incident in Sanya.Four major themes were identified through a preliminary research:authority of government,crisis management,human right and civil society,and reduction in trustworthiness of government.The article also proposes better ways to build up an effective,responsible and trustworthy governmental response to crisis.
