Numerical Simulation of the Influence of Urban Rainstorm on Water-logging and Traffic Congestion
Serious water-logging in streets caused by urban rainstorms widely occurs recent years.Urban rainstorms lead to road water-logging and low visibility, which affect drivers behaviors and thus cause traffic jams and potential accidents.Studying on the mechanisms of waterlogging and traffic congestions in storms and forecasting them are helpful to reduce losses. In this paper,a disaster chain model of how urban storms impact traffic was developed. We use urban rainfall-runoff model to simulate the water distribution on roads, use questionnaires to study the influence on drivers of factors like water distribution and visibility, and use traffic simulation to get the road conditions. The disaster chain model was applied to some simple situations, and then an integrated simulation program was developed and applied to actual urban area in Beiiing.
