Application of SPH Method to Dam-break Flow through City Layouts
With the rapid development of computer technology and computing techniques these years, the numerical modeling of the dam break flood through urbanized layouts has been a main research focus.Since the drawbacks of the two dimensional depth-averaged grid-based models lead to unsatisfied numerical results of the violent flows through the urbanized areas,we are trying to apply the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) methodology with graphical processing unit (GPU)parallel computing technique employed to investigate the violent dam break flow in urban districts to enhance the quality of urbanized flood hazard assessment and well forecast the downstream inundation mapping in our Emergency Response Platform (ERP).From the good numerical results of two different city layouts:(1) a square city layout of 5 × 5 buildings, and (2) intricate urban district with complex buildings and infrastructural constructions,we found that the SPH method is well-suited for the modeling of the three dimensional complex features of flood through the city layouts.
