A Mohr-Coulomb Failure Criterion for Rocks Subjected to Dynamic Loading
The classical Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion has been extensively used in various rock engineering applications. To investigate the applicability of the Mohr-Coulomb model to dynamic rock failures,I examined in this work the correlation of the three dynamic rock properties:compressive strength, tensile strength and punch shear strength of Longyou sandstone (LS),obtained using a modified split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) system.Considering the loading rate effect of the rock dynamic properties, the three dynamic properties are compared and correlated. The results show that the famous Mohr-Coulomb criterion can be extended to the dynamic range, given proper conversion of the loading rate.
