Recent Developments in the Treatment of Radioactive Wastewater Using Membrane Separation Technology

  With the shortage of non-renewable energy sources,nuclear electric power generation,which is regarded as one of the most promising new technologies for energy supply,has been paid great attention.Meanwhile,the amount of radioactive waste,especially radioactive wastewater,is elevated to new level with the rapid development of nuclear power plants in recent years.As a result,security for nuclear power plants becomes a hot topic and attracts much public attention.To solve the contamination derived fiom nuclear electric power generation,many innovative methods are recently proposed.Among these methods,membrane separation technology has become an attractive method because of its high efficiency of radionuclide removal from radioactive wastewater.This review is to summarize the recent literature on the treatment of radioactive wastewater using membrane separation technology.Different types of membrane separation processes will be highlighted.We hope that this review can promote the better understand of radioactive wastewater treatment using membrane separation technology.
