Simulation of Substrate Removal in Step-Feed Process with Model ASM1

  Based on ASM 1,the models of single-feed and step-feed process with completely mixed activated sludge were established.The components removals in two types of feed processes are simulated by Matlab Simulink.The results showed that organic matter removal and heterotrophic organisms (XBH) growing could benefit from single-feed process,while the step-feed process would promote ammonia nitrogen (SNH) removal and autotrophic organisms (XBA) growing.One round of simulation running showed that the increment of XBA in step-feed process can be 0.4% higher than that in single-feed.Using the same sludge age to control system running,the cumulated XBA value in step-feed process would be more than the value in single-feed.The oxygen uptake rate of nitrification (NOUR) in activated sludge in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) showed that the step-feed process could effectively upgrade the NOUR which XBA reached to 695 mgO2/(Ld),1.96 times higher than the average value of another 4 WWTPs with single-feed process.
