Weak Current Enhanced Microbial Degradation of Naphthalene Compounds
Biofilm-electrode reactor (BER) was used in degradation of 1-naphthol and 1-naphthylamine-4-sulfonic acid.Compared with biochemical degradation, the bio-electro-catalysis in BER provided a higher degradation rate.By mass-spectrometry,the intermediate products of bio-electro-catalyzed degradation were detected. After comparing the intermediate products of BER with those reported in biodegradation, the bio-electro-catalytic degradation pathways of 1-naphthol and 1-naphthylamine-4-sulfonic acid were established. This study found that weak current could accelerate the loop-opening process of naphthalene nucleus and benzene ring, which mainly occurred at the cathode. But in the tobias acid degradation experiment, tobias acid did not decompose, due to the deadly poisonous to the microbial.
