Decoloration of Methyl Orange by Pulsed Discharge Combined with Photocatalysis TiO2
In the present work, methyl orange was decolorred by pulsed corona discharge combined with TiO2 photocatalysis. The electrode geometry of the pulsed discharge is plate to plate separated by an insulating plate with three pinholes. The corona discharge was developed under the three pinholes. The liquid phase (upper) and gas phase (lower) plasma produced a lot of active species, ultraviolet light, and high-energy electrons which resulted in the decoloration of the methyl orange solution. The effects of the TiO2 concentration, peak voltage, initial solution conductivity, gas bubbling varieties (air,O2,and N2),and hydroxyl radical scavenger (sodium carbonate) on decoloration were studied. The results revealed that the decoloration rate of methyl orange could be increased by adding appropriate amounts of TiO2.
