Experimental Study on Scale Effects for Dispersion Coefficient in a Single Horizontal Fracture
Contaminant transport through fractured media becomes a big issue in environmental engineering. To describe the abnormal flow and transport behaviors in fractured media, well controlled flow experiments and tracer tests have been carded out to study solute transport in a single horizontal fracture under different fracture apertures and flow velocities.Scale effect of the longitudinal dispersion coefficient was found and the fractal dimensions were varied in the range of 0.5-1.8 for solute transport in a single horizontal fracture. The fractal dimension values decrease with the average flow velocity.
