　　This special collection focuses on ongoing research topics concerning the light metals aluminum,magnesium and titanium; as well as some of their compounds.Scientific aspects,such as their mechanical properties,corrosion resistance,processing innovations,and also their current applications in the aerospace,automotive or medical fields are discussed.Sociological questions such as environmental challenges and implementation are also focused upon.Finally,computational materials science methods complete this thorough coverage of the light metals.
