Facile Synthesis of Hierarchically Macro-/Mesoporous Carbon by Polymerization-Induced Phase Separation Combined with Starch Template
This article presents a facile synthesis of hierarchically macro-/mesoporous carbon by combining polymerization-induced phase separation and starch template approaches. The resulting porous carbon had macropores with pore sizes of 10 ~ 60 μm and 3 ~ 5 μm and mesopores with pore size of 5 ~ 40 nm.The macropores resulted from thermal decomposition of the starch template, while the mesopores were attributed to the polymerization-induced phase separation between ethylene glycol and phenolic resin via spinodal decomposition mechanism. The obtained hierarchical porous carbon could be potentially applied as electrode materials for batteries, fuel cells and supercapacitors due to their facile synthesis, unique hierarchical porous structure and large surface area.
