Bioaugmentation with Degradative Bacterium in MBR Treating Pyridine or Quinoline Contaminated Water
Bacterial strains Paracoccus denitrificans W12 and Pseudomonas BT001 were added in two membrane bioreactor (MBR) to enhance pyridine and quinoline degradation respectively in a pharmaceutical wastewater. The wastewater treatment efficiencies, especially the removal of pyridine and quinoline were investigated. The results show that significant removal of pyridine was obtained-when the HRT was 60 h and the influent concentration of pyridine was 300-500 mg · L-1,the effluent concentration of pyridine without adding W12 was 70-80 mg · L-1,while the pyridine was degraded completely when W12 was added in the 1 # MBR by bioaugmentation. However, the removal of COD,TN,and TP didnt vary too much no matter whether W12 was added or not.The significant removal of quinoline was also obtained in 2# MBR with bioaugmentation:when the influent concentrations of quinoline were 300-400 mg · L-1,the effluent concentrations of quinoline without adding BT001 were 60-70 mg · L-1,but the quinoline was degraded completely with adding BT001.
