Tribological Property of Sulfur-and Phosphorus-free Molybdenum-containing Water-based Lubricants
In this study several molybdenum-containing substitutes (MCS) were synthesized, and then characterized by FT-IR,and evaluated by a muhifunctional four-ball tester. The four ball test results shows that all MCS has obvious beneficial effect on the improvement of water lubricity, but the effectiveness,to a large extent,is dependent upon the structure of both fatty acids and molybdenum contents. The topography and composition of worn scar surfaces are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometry (XPS).The results indicates that boundary reaction films, consisting of molybdenum oxides and nitrides probably plays an important role in the enhancement of the load carrying capacity, antiwear and friction-reducing properties of waterbased lubricants.
