Modeling of FemtoCell Access Point and The Proposed Lost Packet Recovery Strategy

FemtoCell promises to increase the coverage of indoor hotspots by installed wireless data access point (AP) inside homes, which backhauls data through a broadband gateway over the Internet to the cellular operator network 1.As IP backhaul does not provide reliable QoS for delay sensitive traffic, such as voice calls,it is reasonable to integrate all the work of providing acceptable QoS within FemtoCell AP.This paper firstly establishes a two-layer sequential queue model, consisting of FemtoCell AP and server in IP backhaul,to analyze the interaction between indoor traffic and IP traffic.Monte-Carlo simulation shows that FemtoCell AP serves as a bottleneck in the system, packet loss ratio of indoor voice calls is directly affected by its proportion in the merged data flow collected by FemtoCell AP.Secondly, upon the aim to deploy FemtoCell with no extra expense for telecom operators,a hybrid FEC technique, integrating parity code with error concealment is proposed for FemtoCell AP to recovery lost voice packets.Overall, the proposed technique can fully recover at most three consecutively lost packets; partly recover 4~6 consecutively lost packets and break down only when the number of consecutively lost packets reaches up to 7 or more.
