Analysis of Throughput in Dam and Reservoir Monitoring Networks with Multi-AP Diversity

In dam and reservoir monitoring networks, information delivery increasingly depends on radio channels with technical advances in wireless communications.Due to signal reflections on water surface in such networks, one packet is more likely to be received by multiple access points with acceptable powers than in terrestrial environments.Multi-accesspoint (multi-AP) diversity is able to exploit this phenomenon and improve the network throughput. This paper analyzes the throughput of dam and reservoir monitoring networks with multi-AP diversity and illustrates the improvement in throughput compared to that without multi-AP diversity. In the analyzed model, the multi-access scheme is slotted-Aloha and channels are subject to Nakagami fading.
