Modelling the light scattering properties of aluminium induced textured (AIT) glass

Textured surfaces are known to scatter light and, consequently, increase the optical path-length in a solar cell deposited on top of them.In this paper we investigate theoretically the surface morphology and scattering properties of micro-textured aluminium induced textured (AIT) glass with different root mean square roughness (σrms). The theoretical investigation is based on scalar scattering theory and different phase models were tested to simulate the angularly resolved scattering (ARS).In a first step, the ARS is simulated for nano-textured transparent conductive oxides (TCOs),which are known to have excellent light trapping properties. These tests are performed in order to validate our phase-models.In a second step,we perform a detailed investigation of AIT glass. The surface morphology of the samples is studied by comparing the Power Spectral density (PSD) of the surface profile.Fourier transform of the phase modulation is also applied for simulating both the ARS and the haze of the samples. The ARS is also experimentally measured with a goniophotometer. The measured and simulated data show good agreement.
