Research on the gas sensing enhancement of ZnO/CNTs composite for CO

Multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with different weight ratio (100:9,100:8,100:5,100:4) were added into ZnO nanowries matrix to develop a ZnO/CNTs composite gas sensor. The hybrid sensor is used to detect CO in air by measuring resistance changes of thin ZnO/CNTs films at different working temperature. For comparison, pure ZnO and ZnO/CNTs sensors were also examined. The gas sensing results reveal that ZnO/CNTs with the weight ratio (100:9) hybrid sensors exhibited much higher sensitivity and fast response-recovery properties towards CO at 240°C than the blank ZnO nanowires.Hybrid material of ZnO nanowires and CNT composites could potentially display not only the unique properties of ZnO nanowires and those of CNTs,but also an additional novel property. It makes these materials very promising for gas sensing applications in terms of high sensitivity at lower temperature.
