The Influence of water contact angle on the settlement and adhesion of diatoms (Navicula sp and Pinnularia sp) and Ulva spores (Pertusa)
In this paper, the surface with different water contact angle (θAW) was prepared through the use of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs).The SAMs were formed from alkanethiols terminated with -CH3,-CF3,-OH groups or their mixtures on gold.In a identical and optional environment, the effect of water contact angle on the settlement and adhesion of diatoms (Navicula sp and Pinnularia sp) and Ulva spores (Pertusa) was researched. Results reveal that the density or the removal ratio of adhered cells has different relationships with water contact angle for the two types fouling organisms. For diatoms, both Navicula sp and Pinnularia sp,the adhesion density and the removal ratio of adhered diatoms decrease with the increase of θAW.For Ulva spores (Pertusa),the result presents the other way round.
