Fragmentation of TiN Particles by Ultrasonic Treatment
In this study,a intensitive ultrasonic treatment system was used for the fragmentation of micrometer sized TiN ceramic particles in the range of 100-700μm.Fragmentation of particles was observed and substantial sub-micron particles (ranging from 0.2-1μm) were obtained. The effects of various parameters such as applied ultrasonic power, treatment time, solids concentration and liquid volume on fragmentation were investigated.Laser particle size analyzer was used to study the fragmentation kinetics of TiN.The results indicated that the relationship between specific ultrasound energy and the mean particle size of the particle can be described by an empirical size-energy model.Base on laser particle size analyzer and SEM,the mechanism of fragmentation of TiN was proposed and characterized. The fraction of sub-micron particles became more pronounced with increased duration and applied power, but with decreased solids concentration and suspension volume.Incorporation with XRD and DSC,the lattice strain induced in particle during ultrasonic treatment was detected.
