Fabrication and Characterization of Monolayer and Bilayer Colloidal-crystal Films with Polystyrene Nanospheres of Various Diameters by Spin-coating

  Monolayer and bilayer colloidal-crystal films are used as physical mask in nanosphere lithorgrphy (NSL).The development of NSL required that more study focused on the preparation of colloidal-crystal films with large-scale,high ordering degree and nanospheres of different diameters.In this study,polystyrene (PS) nanospheres were self-assembled to form monolayer and bilayer colloidal-crystal films by employing spin-coating technology.Monolayer and bilayer PS nanospheres with four different diameters (223nm,347nm,509nm and 1300nm) were prepared successfully by adjusting the spin speed and acceleration during spin-coating process.Then,the optical properties of these films were analyzed and a primary,fast and convenient way to characterization the uniformity of large area films was provided by comparing the reflectivity spectrums.After that,the microstructures were carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The studies of the SEM images suggested that both monolayer and bilayer films were uniformity and the PS nanospheres (223nm,347nm,509nm and 1300nm) arranged in order of hexagonal close-packed(HCP) in monolayer films and the top layer of bilayer films.
