3D Fingerprint Sensor System Based on Fringe Projection Technique
Biometrics is based on personal unique physical and behavioral characteristics to recognize human being.With information technology development,biometrics has been widely applied to ID card,access control,border control,and criminal investigation to name a few.Fingerprint has been studied in academics and utilized in many application fields because of the advantages of universality,uniqueness,permanency and acceptability.The existing studies of fingerprint recognition are mostly based on obtaining 2D image of fingerprint,so the obtained fingerprint features are distorted and inaccurate.With the development of 3D imaging measurement techniques,it is increasingly important and necessary to acquire 3D fingerprint without the disadvantage of 2D fingerprint,such as distortion,pressure and illumination shading.In this paper,a novel 3D fingerprint acquisition system is presented by using fringe projection technique.The principle of 3D fingerprint sensor is introduced to obtain the absolute phase data (3D shape).The paper presents hardware and software of the 3D sensor system and their assembling.Some initial experimental results on fingerprints demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed 3D fingerprint sensor system.
