Dimension Measurement of Large Objects Using Stereo Camera Combined with Rotary Mechanism
This paper presents a new approach to measure dimensions of large objects. The developed system merges stereo vision and kinematics.Stereo vision technique is applied to calculate 3D positions of measured object corners by using stereo camera.Rotatable camera base allows the stereo camera can capture each object corner at each different camera postures. With kinematics method, dimensions of the measured object are estimated based on defined corner positions and coordinate transformations of camera postures.Experimental results are shown that the proposed approach and the vision-based measurement system have a high accuracy. This system can be developed to measure for large industrial products.
