Condition Assessment for 72 CMP Culverts for Storm Drain in Diamond Peak Ski Resort Project

In 2011 at the Diamond Peak Ski Resort,a 1800 long 72 CMP Culvert needed to be evaluated for structural and hydraulic capacity.CCTV inspection was performed by a professional company; and high quality data was provided.A new condition assessment method for culverts was proposed and utilized for this project, which is based on the culvert rating system originally developed by Mr.R.Trevis from Oregon DOT to evaluate the severity of the culvert and recently advanced by Dr.C.Yang during his PhD research.A comparison between the new assessment method and the traditional assessment methods used by professional engineers was provided and a rehabilitation and replacement plan was proposed based on the culvert condition rating report. This paper evaluates the applicability of the proposed culvert rating system in a real project, which demonstrates that this standardized culvert rating system is a valuable tool in the asset management of culverts.
