The Effective Shear Rate for Pipeline Transporting Viscoplastic Fluid
The performance curve of pump reveals the relationship between the pressure and the flow rate,yet the constitutive equation of fluid reveals the relationship between the shear stress and the shear rate.So it is important to investigate the relationship between the effective shear rate and the flow rate in pipeline.For pipeline transporting viscoplastic fluid,a zone without shear rate may exist in the pipe center,and that will make the relationship between the effective shear rate and the flow rate obviously different from pipeline transporting fluid without yield stress.Based on the analysis of laminar flow of viscoplastic fluid in pipeline,an implicit equation to reveal the relationship between the effective shear rate and the flow rate was derived,by which numerical simulation and analysis for pipe flow of different types of viscoplastic fluids in different conditions were carried out.For pipeline transporting viscoplastic fluids under a constant flow rate,the effective shear rate increases with the increase of the yield stress of fluid,and decrease with the increase of the consistency and the rheological index of fluid and the inside diameter of pipeline.For pipeline transporting viscoplastic fluids with thixotropy nature,the effective shear rate will also decrease with time,yet tend to stable.
