Finite Element Modeling of Controlled-source Electromagnetic Induction for 3-D Resistivity Distribution

A scalar finite element algorithm for modeling frequency domain controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) responses over 3D structures was presented. The scheme was based on the curl-curl equation of the electric field E.Under quasi-static conditions, the closed expressions for the far field in the air and the earth were taken as the outer boundary conditions and pseudo-delta functions were used to remove the singularity of the dipole source.High-performance solver PETSc is used to solve the large scale complex linear equations effectively.Several numerical tests conformed the validity of this algorithm.
