Regularized Inversion for Three-dimensional Magnetotelluric Data
The magnetotelluric inverse problem is ill-posed,and therefore unstable and non-unique.This means that different geo-electrical models could fit the observed data with the same accuracy.A stable solution of an ill-posed inverse problem can be obtained by utilizing the regularization methods in the objective functional subjected to minimum. On the other hand,three-dimensional magnetotelluric inversion required powerful higher-end workstations or supercomputers. Thus,we have formulated a three-dimensional inverse solution for the magnetotelluric problem using regularized technique and approximate sensitivities method. The synthetic examples show that three-dimensional regularized inversion method are feasible and give reasonably accurate results for simple three-dimensional models.
