Sensitivities of Surface-wave Dispersion Curves due to High-velocity-layer Models
High-frequency surface-wave inversion is increasingly applied to estimation of shear (S)-wave velocities for near-surface geological structures. Our study addresses sensitivities of multimode dispersion curves of Rayleigh and Love waves for earth models containing a high-velocity layer (HVL).We analyzed and discussed sensitivities of dispersion curves due to four HVL models. The results show that Rayleigh and Love wave phase velocities are insensitive to variations in S-wave velocities of an HVL and layers beneath the HVL.This characteristic can influence the inversion stability. Our results suggested that reducing the number of layers in the process of inversion.Joint inversion of multimode Love waves with Rayleigh waves would enhance the accuracy of S-wave profiles as well.
