Research on Effect of Response of Plastic Zone on Well Stability during Drilling Process in Natural Gas Hydrate Bearing Sediments

A risk involved with stability of formation due to the sensitivity of sediments to temperature and pressure was existed during drilling in natural gas hydrate bearing sediments (HBS),and also related to the distribution of hydrate in HBS.Actually the mechanism of drilling was a process coupled thermal, hydrological and mechanical process. Thus,it was necessary to learn about the stability of formation around wellbore during drilling process and the stability or instability of sediment condition was directly related to the size and evolution of plastic zone.In this paper,we compared the effects of the response of plastic zone of some typical hydrate bearing sediments to drilling performance on wellbore stability, and the results presented that different effects of hydrate dissociation and drilling fluid on plastic zone under the load of temperature and pressure. The research on plastic zone of formation was practical to understand and predicted the stability and the response of hydrate bearing sediments to drilling.
