Correlation between Variability of Parameters in Photoplethysmographic Signal
Correlation analysis on variability of different Photoplethysmography (PPG) parameters can reflect the coordination of autonomic regulatory activities. This paper explored the correlations between variability of 6 parameters related with amplitude, period and baseline in PPG signals from 30 healthy subjects. The result shows correlations between difference sequences of the period parameters and of amplitude or baseline parameters are commonly higher than corresponding correlations between direct parameters.Especially, the difference of diastole amplitude and difference of valley period keep high correlation and strict synchronism, which provide an evidence for autonomic coordination on regulation the heart rate and flow volume. Moreover,it may imply that the autonomic system does not adjust a physiological parameter itself but the changes of it.Further research is necessary to draw a final conclusion and make PPG a practical tool to evaluate autonomic function.
