How Accurate Scatter Can Be Estimated in Nuclear Medicine Images?:A Monte Carlo Study
The quality of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging is hampered by scatter, attenuation and collimator blurring, and Especially, efficient scatter correction has proved to be difficult to achieve. Objective: The objective of this article was to assess the accuracy of three wellknown methods of scatter correction in comparison to montecarlo studies.methods: Different homogenous phantoms with non-uniform activity distributions and attenuation maps were simulated by SimSET then DEW,TEW and Klein-Nishina Scatter correctoin methods applied on different projections of SPECT for scatter estimation.the result of scatter estimation by these three methods compare to scatter projections simulated. Results: Klein-Nishina scatter estimation & TEW has the least differences to simulated scatter.
