Paediatric effective and organ dose conversion factors for dental cone beam computed tomography using MCNP5
Introduction-Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an emerging x-ray imaging modality with applications in dental and maxillofacial imaging.Dental CBCT has been associated with a higher radiation risk compared to conventional panoramic and intraoral imaging.Materials and Methods-This study used Monte Carlo modelling to calculate organ and effective dose conversion factor for one dental CBCT unit using a voxel-based 10 year old phantom. Results and Discussion-The organ dose conversion factors for the radiosensitive organs in the head and neck region are presented. In addition, effective dose conversion factors are given for all the exposure conditions and imaging protocols of the machine and the relationship between the conversion factors and the machines parameters is investigated and discussed.
