A Vision-Based Gait Analysis System with Tracking Capability
With the improving of living standard, the human health problem receives more and more attention, and the cost of health care grows accordingly as well.So how to use simple methods or instruments to realize health condition and reduce the cost of medical resource is an important issue. This study proposes a vision-based gait analysis system with tracking capability. It can be used to record gait posture and understand health conditions, achieving the objective of effective health care and lower health care cost. This study uses s PTZ camera to analyze human walking posture based on the side view of silhouette images. The proposed system can track the walking object by estimating the walking speed of human object and determine when to rotate the camera in order to capture more posture features, including body line, neck line, center of gravity (COG) and gait width.Following the walking of human, the proposed system rotates the camera horizontally to expand the surveillance scope and conducts background retraining successfully for extracting the gait features from silhouette images.Furthermore, the proposed system is compared to the system without camera rotation and the feature waveforms obtained by these two systems are almost the same. This shows that the proposed system can increase the convenience and practicability for the system capturing the characteristics of walking postures visually.
