Arm Tremor Assessment in Clinical Practice
In clinical practice the tremor and dystonia of patients is most often characterized qualitatively based on visual observation. In this paper simple devices are suggested for quantitative assessment: (1) PAM,a passive marker based motion analyzer,(2) a digitizing tablet with spiral drawing test.PAM fits excellently to testing different kinds of relatively slow human movements by measuring displacement.Tracking a spiral with a pen on a digitizing tablet characterizes tremor and dystonia of patients with movement disorders affecting their upper limbs.Patients with neural diseases were tested,386 patients performed the spiral test,427 were tested with PAM.Typical trajectories are shown together with the evaluation.15 patients’ results are given who underwent brain surgery to decrease tremor.
