Development and benchmarking of a new Monte Carlo treatment planning module based on the EGSnrc Monte Carlo system for clinical applications of a 192Ir brachytherapy source

  This paper presents a new Monte Carlo treatment planning module named Brachy3Dose for 3-dimensional and CT image based brachytherapy dose calculation.The module was developed based on the EGSnrc Monte Carlo code system.It has been benchmarked by reproducing TG-43U1 dosimetry parameters for a particular brachytherapy source (microSelectron-HDR 192Ir,Nucletron model No.105.002,Netherland) with internal structure and encapsulation.Tabulated dosimetry data and parameters from this study are compared with values calculated by Daskalov et al.using Monte Carlo Photon-Transport (MCPT) code.Overall,calculations performed with Brachy3Dose module show good agreements with the data published by Daskalov.Some deviations,however,are also obtained.
