Case Study: Evaluating Data Quality Approaches Applied to European Patent Office Database
The APE-INV project1, funded by European Science Foundation, aims to measure the extent of academic patenting in Europe, and study its determinants, so as to improve the understanding of University-Industry relationships. In the context of this project, we conducted a case study on the proposed data quality approaches in the APE-INV project. The main goal of this case study is to evaluate the data quality approaches applied to the database offered by European Patent Office. The research outcomes are the comparison and evaluation of the proposed data cleansing approaches. Our findings indicate the strengths and weaknesses of these data cleansing approaches, and provide future data quality research directions for the European Patent Office.
