Research on the properties of 20G steel with strain aging embrittlement using indentation test

It is a common phenomenon that metallic material reveals strain aging embrittlement after cold working. Once the strain aging embrittlement happened, the toughness of the material would decrease dramatically. It is serious influence on the safety service of equipment, but there is no considerably effective and nondestructive testing method to evaluate the strain aging embrittlement in engineering. In this paper, research on a testing method of indentation test proposed by F M Haggag is discussed first, and then the experimental testing research on 20G steel properties with strain aging embrittlement is carried out and discussed using indentation test. The authors proposed to use indentation test to measure the properties of metallic materials with strain aging embrittlement based on experimental verification. And it provides a possibility to measure the properties of metallic materials with strain aging embrittlement using nondestructive testing method.
