Determination of reference temperature T0 for A508-III forging using PCVN specimens based on Beremin toughness scaling model
The aim of this paper is to use precracked Charpysize specimen (PCVN) to measure Master Curve reference temperature T0 for homemade A508-III forging. This study experimentally evaluates the use of PCVN specimens to estimated T0 by comparing differences in T0 results between PCVN and 0.5T-SE (B) specimen. It is found that the allowable limit of Mimit specified in ASTM El921 is un-conservative. Even though T0 value from PCVN satisfies the validity criterion in El921, it is much lower than the 0.5T-SE (B) result. The fracture toughness data from PCVN specimens were scaled to the IT size by using Beremin toughness scaling model. Taking account of the constraint effect, the difference between T0 values measured using PCVN specimens and 0.5T-SE (B) specimen is obviously reduced.
