Feature of magnetic memory signals of crack and incomplete penetration in welding joints

The effect of the angle between defects and detecting directions of magnetic memory testing on the feature of magnetic memory signals was studied. It was found Hp(y) had zero cross point upon defects when detecting perpendicular to defects; while Hp(y) had opposite polarities and varied oppositely in the two sensors above heat affected zones as detecting parallel to it. The results suggest MMMT can detect defects with good sensitivity without considering the relative angle between defects and detecting direction. MMMT can be used in identifying crack, incomplete penetration, edge offset, etc.
