Assessment of C-integral for functionally graded materials

In this paper, a simple method had been proposed to estimate the creep C-integral for functionally graded materials (FGM) where the crack was parallel to the material gradient. The steady-state C -integral and the transient C(t)-integral were estimated by the proposed method. Finite element analyses had verified the proposed method almost had the same accuracy as homogeneous materials. The proposed method is suited to the unidirectional variation in the material properties and independent on the graded-variation law of the material properties and the material model. For complex cases, it can be used based on the reference stress method.
