Globalization and Changing Human Resource Perspectives: A Study of Public Sector Undertakings in India
Human Resources (HR) is one of the most complex and challenging fields of management, as it deals with human dimension in business management. The biggest challenge now being faced by Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) is HR as it plays a strategic role in the growth of an organization and thereby maximizes returns on investment. The HR managements role is required to be perceived as business strategic partner in the organization and it has to identify its key role with clarity in the context of organizational working as well as contributing to organizations strategy. Strategic HR practices help the organization in achieving long-term and shortterm goals through optimum utilization of human resources. Pay-for-Performance philosophy has become an emerging HR trend, which increases organizational effectiveness by aligning employee effort to the organizational mission. The changes in industrial scenario have sent clear signals to the public sector to revisit theiT Human Resources (HR) Management practices and formulate HR strategies with focus on profitability on a long-term basis. Technology is the driving force of liberalization, privatization and globalization the world over. Technology in communications has undergone revolutionary changes in the last two decades. In this backdrop, the present study looks at the emerging human resources perspectives in the public sector in India with emphasis on strategic HR practices and the role of information and communication technology in achieving organizational goals.
