Making Joint Efforts for World Food Security—Role of BRICS

This paper aims to study the Agriculture Action Plan by the BRICS group of nations and try to analyze the implications for the developing world. In the past few decades, some large economies such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) have acquired a vital role in the world economy as producers of goods and services, receivers of capital, and as potential consumer markets. At present, these five countries encompass over 40 per cent of the worlds population and account for nearly 25 per cent of total global GDP in terms oFPPP. Food security is one of the serious issues in many parts of the world right in recent times. Researchers have diversified the concept of food security at many levels, for example, food insecurity, food security, rural food security and urban food security are several concepts which are studied under the umbrella of food security. Agriculture, food, water, land and climate are closely interlinked due to their inherent interdependent nature. The significance in studying about food security is because as the end product it affects the very survival of human civilization as we know it now. In this regard, there is a possibility to increase cooperation among the BRICS nations.
